Staying Healthy with Nutrition

With a Masters Degree in Nutrition from Bastyr University, it’s safe to say that Ami Karnosh has an authority on healthy eating and wellness. She has been teaching cooking and nutrition for the past thirteen years with an emphasis on empowering others to make improvements in their own life through healthy food choices. Ami has always been passionate about creating a better world overall. In her own battles with illness throughout her life, she knows first hand what a difference a healthy lifestyle makes.

While teaching cancer prevention and survival classes through PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), Ami approached Cancer Lifeline as a place to reach more people who could benefit from the information. Fortunately, this was around the time that CL started to include nutrition classes and presentations in its list of services. With this partnership Ami was able to teach a wider range of topics and has been with us ever since!

When we asked Ami how others can stay healthy through their eating choices, she explained the benefit of making small changes. “Eating healthier can seem overwhelming if you try to change everything at once. I encourage choosing one thing to focus on and that one thing alone until you don’t even need to think about it anymore, it just becomes second nature,” Ami suggested. “Trying to do too much all at once can lead to feeling like healthy eating is all or nothing. Instead of deciding that you need to go on a “diet,” try a small change like making healthier breakfast options at home, buying more organic and whole foods, or eliminating sugar from you diet. Over time it will be easier to choose the healthier options in your everyday life. ‘Healthy’ is going to mean something different to everyone so do what is going to actually improve your personal life, not what’s happening in the mainstream.”
