Family Workshop: Creative Expression for Families and Kids ages 6-18 (Feb)

Date(s) - February 8, 2020
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

[ONLINE] Dorothy O'Brien Center Multipurpose Room
6522 Fremont Avenue North
Seattle, WA 98103

In this family workshop series, we encourage families with children, adolescents, or young adults ages 6-18 to join us. We will be focusing on several different topics for families with members who have a cancer diagnosis (whether that is a parent or other relative or a child) through the use of different forms of creative expression. Families are invited to attend one or more in the series; each workshop will be different and will not rely on any prior workshop to participate. Each workshop will be limited to four families and will involve optional group sharing at its conclusion, with most of the active work in the workshop taking place between family members.

While we allow for drop-ins, it really helps us with planning if you register. Only one family member needs to register. On the online registration form, when you answer the household size question, please indicate the number attending the workshop from your family. After registering, you will receive an email seeking family member names and ages.

In the second workshop, we will examine family cohesion through family ritual and engage in a series of facilitated written or oral storytelling prompts to foster shared connection and dramatic play to imagine and “try on” possible new or revised family rituals that can be additionally supportive during the health crisis of a family member, a time when previously comforting routines of life are often lost or feel less important or possible. No storytelling or drama experience needed.
