SUMMARY:[IN-PERSON] Cancer & Creative Expression: Kintsugi Sponsored by Virginia Mason Franciscan Health
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi—repairing broken pottery with gold—this class invites you to explore healing through the lens of beauty in imperfection. Participants will be a part of a creative process while reflecting on how their experiences with cancer have changed them\, and how those changes might be honored rather than hidden. Like Kintsugi\, this process embraces the cracks and scars as part of a new\, resilient whole. No artistic or writing experience is required—just an open heart and a willingness to explore your story. Although this class is in person\, we still use Zoom as a registration tool\, so please click the link below to register. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nNeed help getting registered? Having trouble joining a class? Please call our Telephone Lifeline at 206-297-2500 M-F\, 9am-5pm or connect with us through our Online Lifeline Chat.

SUMMARY:[IN-PERSON] Mindful Self-Compassion Practices Sponsored by Swedish Cancer Institute
DESCRIPTION:Mindful Self-Compassion has its roots in the ancient Buddhist practice of Loving kindness\, or what is sometimes called “metta” meditation. The goal and outcome of this practice is to foster an attitude of self-compassion and kindness toward our own self. Our practice will involve the silent repetition of phrases in which we wish ourselves health\, wellness\, safety\, and peace. We’ll also have a chance to consider other practices that increase our self-compassion. In difficult times\, cultivating deep and lasting self-compassion helps us cope with stress and disappointments and improves our overall well-being for a lifetime.
