Road To Recovery | American Cancer Society and 1-800-227-2345. This is a nationwide program that provides free rides to and from cancer-related medical appointments using local volunteer drivers. Patients must be able to walk without help or have a care giver accompany them. Requests for rides should be made 7 to 14 days before the appointment.
Catholic Community Services of Western Washington
Home Care | Catholic Community Services of Western Washington and (877) 870-1582). Available to seniors and people with disabilities regardless of religious belief, this program provides a variety of services that include transportation. Services are offered in Clallam; Jefferson & Kitsap; Grays Harbor & Pacific; King; Mason; Thurston & Lewis; Pierce, Skagit & San Juan; Snohomish & Island; Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark & Skamania; and Whatcom counties.
Community Transit DART (Dial a Ride)
DART Paratransit | Community Transit and 425-347-5912. DART provides para-transportation services for residents with disabilities that prevent them from using conventional transit. Riders first must meet with an Eligibility Specialist to confirm that DART is the appropriate service for them.
Homage Senior Services’ Transportation Assistance Program (TAP)
Homage’s Transportation Assistance Program (TAP) – Homage and 425-423-8517.
Provides transportation to healthcare and other services in rural Snohomish County for low-income seniors (55+) and disabled individuals who are outside of the Community Transit Dial a Ride (DART) service area. Rates are $1.75 per ride.
Hopelink Transportation Resources Line
Mobility Management – Hopelink and 425-943-6760. One-on-one help for understanding transportation options for a variety of King County residents, including people with disabilities, older adults, low-income individuals, immigrants, refugees, and people with limited English proficiency.
Kathleen Sutton Fund
https://kathleensutton.org/ and 360-328-1049. KSF provides transportation assistance for women with cancer living in Washington’s Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap & Mason counties. Women can initiate the reimbursement process directly and will be assisted in obtaining a referral from their healthcare provider (Social Worker, Patient Navigator, RN/MD). The Kathleen Sutton Fund covers ferry fees, mileage, parking, tolls, and any other transit expense for patients and companions.
Medicare Advantage
Some Medicare Advantage policies include non-emergency transportation for medical purposes. Check with your provider to see if your plan includes this benefit.
Metro Access Transportation
Access Transportation – King County, Washington King County Metro’s Access vans provide transportation services for people with disabilities that prevent them from riding traditional buses and trains. Metro’s website describes eligibility requirements and explains both how to apply and how to book a ride.
Metro DART (Dial a Ride)
DART service – King County, Washington and 866-261-3278. DART provides transit services primarily in suburban King County for any riders, using the same rates as normal Metro buses. DART provides both fixed routes and off-route trips. Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance.
Sound Generations’ Hyde Shuttle
Hyde Shuttle Senior Ride Service | Ride Service for Seniors 206-727-6262. Available in the greater Seattle Area, this service provides free rides for seniors and older adults with disabilities to a wide variety of services, including medical appointments, senior centers, shopping, etc. Trips are generally shared among multiple riders and should be scheduled 7 to 14 days in advance.
Sound Generations’ Volunteer Transportation
Volunteer Senior Transportation | Senior Driver Volunteer 206-448-5740. This program uses volunteer drivers to provide King County WA residents aged 60 and over with transportation to medical and dental appointments, shopping, senior centers, etc. Scheduling hours are weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and rides must be called in by the Tuesday of the week prior to the appointment.
Washington State Health Care Authority
Transportation services (nonemergency) | Washington State Health Care Authority and 1-800-440-1561. This program offers nonemergency transportation for eligible clients to and from covered health care services using transportation brokers. Currently, eligible clients are those in Apple Health (Medicaid) and other state-funded medical assistance programs that include a transportation benefit. The most common types of transportation available include public bus, taxi, wheelchair van, airplane, gas vouchers, ferry tickets, and reimbursement for vehicle mileage. The web site provides contact information for each Washington County. The program recommends scheduling rides 7 to 14 days prior to an appointment.
