Health Professional Renewal Retreats
Pause. Reflect. Reconnect. Renew.
Retreats for nurses and the wider patient-facing care team, offered in partnership with hospitals and health systems. The practice centers on mindfulness, communication, and self-compassion, and has been developed and refined since 2015.
The need for renewal
Healthcare professionals routinely encounter stress, grief, trauma, loss, difficult communication, moral distress, compassion fatigue, and the emotional demands of caregiving. These experiences accumulate over time, and can affect wellbeing, relationships, professional satisfaction, and connection to the purpose that drew people into healthcare work in the first place.
- Chronic workplace stress and emotional exhaustion
- Compassion fatigue and secondary stress
- Repeated exposure to illness, grief, and loss
- Moral distress and difficult professional decisions
- Difficulty maintaining healthy boundaries
- Loss of connection to meaning and purpose
Honest about the system
The retreat does not suggest that individual professionals are responsible for fixing a challenging healthcare system. It is honest about the systemic pressures that shape clinical work, including chronic staffing shortages, mandatory overtime, growing documentation burden, high patient acuity with limited resources, and inadequate organizational support.
It addresses a complementary need: helping the people within that system develop the awareness, skills, support, and permission to care for themselves. Renewal is treated as an ongoing practice, not a one-time event.
Who this retreat is for
Nursing remains at the heart of the retreat. What began in 2015 as renewal support for nurses has grown, over more than a decade, into a program trusted by hospital systems across the Pacific Northwest.
Today it welcomes the interdisciplinary care team: nurse leaders, managers, and educators, and adjunct professionals such as social workers, therapists, chaplains, patient navigators, and healthcare assistants. It is open to the full range of patient-facing hospital staff.
