Feeling Lost in Your Cancer Journey as a Person of Color? Patient Navigation Can Help
This presentation will introduce the role of patient navigation in supporting BIPOC cancer patients and addressing health disparities, presented by Kiara Smith. People who identify as members of black, indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC) and are living with a cancer diagnosis are invited to join this presentation.
About the presenter: Kiara is a Black/African Clinical Patient Navigator, that helps with addressing health disparities faced by Black patients with cancer. Born in raised in Seattle WA, Kiara has been in the health care Field for over 10 years working in various Hospitals such as MultiCare and Harborview Medical Center as a patient billing representative. She has been with Fred Hutch Cancer Center since 2019, starting as a Billing customer service representative to soon move over to being a financial counselor. Kiaras passion for working with cancer patients stems from personal family struggling with cancer treatment and believing that outcomes could have changed if they had someone who provided support to them and assisted them in overcoming barriers across the cancer treatment journey.
